Lanett man arrested for multiple charges

March 13 2024

Auburn, Ala. - On March 8, 2024, Auburn Police, with assistance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Cortney Darshon Malone, age 34, from Lanett, AL, on felony warrants charging him with four counts of unlawfully breaking and entering into a vehicle, five counts of theft of property third degree and sixteen counts of fraudulent use of a debit/credit card.

The arrest stems from Auburn Police receiving multiple reports of auto burglaries that occurred from Dec. 15 to Dec. 26. The break-ins occurred at several locations near the 1700 block of Opelika Road, the 900 Block of West Veterans Boulevard and the 300 block of Enterprise Drive.

Victims reported that property was stolen from their vehicles, including debit and credit cards. The stolen cards were then used to make unauthorized purchases at several businesses, and multiple fraudulent purchases were made online.

Cortney Darshon Malone was developed as a suspect, and after further investigation arrest warrants were obtained. Malone was arrested by Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies on March 8, and Auburn Police Department detectives executed the arrest warrants while Malone was in custody at the Lee County Justice Center.

Malone was booked into the Lee County Jail and held on a $43,500 bond.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
